DGCA Drone Pilot Training in India – Get Your Drone Licence
Become a certified drone pilot with Dronevex. We run DGCA-syllabus training with DGCA-authorised partner RPTOs across India, covering ground school, simulator and live flying on real DJI aircraft. When you pass the proficiency test, you get a Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) that lets you fly professionally across India for survey, agriculture, inspection, media and public-safety work.
Dronevex trains you through a network of DGCA-authorised partner Remote Pilot Training Organisations (RPTOs) across India. We place you at the partner nearest you, and new batches start every week. Counselling and enrolment: Dronevex head office, HSR Layout, Bengaluru.
What Is a DGCA Drone Pilot Licence (Remote Pilot Certificate)?
Under the Drone Rules, 2021 (amended in 2022), India replaced the old "drone pilot licence" with the Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC). You earn it by completing DGCA-prescribed training and passing a proficiency test at an authorised RPTO. The RPTO then issues the certificate online on DGCA's eGCA portal. You need an RPC to fly any drone above the nano class for commercial work.
| Category | All-up weight | RPC needed? |
|---|---|---|
| Nano | Up to 250 g | Not required |
| Micro | 250 g – 2 kg | Not for non-commercial Required for commercial |
| Small | 2 kg – 25 kg | Required |
| Medium | 25 kg – 150 kg | Required |
| Large | Above 150 kg | Required |

How do I get a drone license in India?
Check that you are 18 to 65 years old and have passed Class 10. Enrol in a DGCA-prescribed course at a DGCA-authorised Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO); Dronevex places you at a partner RPTO near you. Complete ground school, simulator and live flying (5 days for the Small category), then pass the RPTO's theory and practical tests. The RPTO then issues your Remote Pilot Certificate (your drone license) online on DGCA's eGCA portal.
Who is eligible for a drone pilot licence in India?
You must be 18 to 65 years old, have passed Class 10 or equivalent, complete the DGCA-prescribed training at an authorised RPTO, and pass its proficiency test.
Do I need a licence to fly a drone in India?
You don't need an RPC to fly a nano drone (up to 250 g), or a micro drone (250 g – 2 kg) for non-commercial use. You need an RPC to fly a micro drone commercially and to fly any small, medium or large drone.
How long is the DGCA drone pilot course?
The Small Category RPC course runs 5 days, covering ground school, simulator, live flying and tests. The Medium course is about 5 days and the Small + Medium combined course about 7 days.
How much does a drone pilot course cost in India?
At DGCA-authorised RPTOs, a Small Category RPC course typically costs about ₹25,000 to ₹35,000 + GST. Medium, combined and specialist courses cost more. Dronevex shares this week's fee for your course on enquiry, and new batches start every week.
How long is the Remote Pilot Certificate valid?
An RPC is valid for up to 10 years and can be renewed through an authorised RPTO.
Do I need prior flying experience?
No. The course starts from the basics, and simulator sessions build your confidence before you fly real drones under an instructor's supervision.
What is the difference between Small and Medium category RPC?
Small RPC covers drones from 2 kg to 25 kg, the most common class for photography, survey and inspection. Medium RPC covers 25 kg to 150 kg, used for heavy agricultural sprayers and payload carriers.
Which documents are required for drone pilot training?
Aadhaar card, passport (or another government photo ID), Class 10 marksheet or certificate, two passport-size photographs, and an active mobile number and email for your eGCA account.
Is there a written exam for the drone licence?
Yes. You take a theory assessment on regulations, airspace, meteorology and drone systems, plus a practical flying test. Both are conducted by the partner RPTO.
What jobs can I get after a drone pilot course?
Certified pilots work in agriculture spraying, land survey and mapping, infrastructure and solar inspection, mining, real estate and media, security and surveillance. Many also start their own drone-service business.
How much does a drone pilot earn in India?
Entry-level drone pilots in India typically earn about ₹15,000 to ₹30,000 a month. Experienced pilots in survey, inspection and agriculture often earn ₹40,000 to ₹60,000 a month or more, and many certified pilots start their own drone-service business.
